Abstract

This study presents, in general terms, the fators that influence the practice of passion-related homicide among men. The research seeks to analyze the main fators underlying male passion-related homicides, considering social, cultural, psychological, and legal aspects. Specifically, the study aims to identify the most common emotional and psychological factors present in male perpetrators of passion-related homicides; to examine the role of sociocultural factors, such as machismo, possessiveness, and gender inequality, in motivating the practice of passion-related homicide; to investigate how the legal system addresses cases of male passion-related homicide, with emphasis on jurisprudence and applied penalties; and to analyze the influence of conflictive romantic relationships and breakups on the occurrence of male passion crimes. The study was guided by a qualitative approach, with the main objective of interpreting the phenomenon under observation. Its purpose was description, understanding, and meaning. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The participants of this research were four subjects, including three inmates and one prison director. The findings indicate that jealousy is indeed one of the key factors of passion-related homicide, given the emotional instability of the aggressor. The results show that passion-related homicide among men results from an exacerbated desire to control the victim—a pathological jealousy that triggers feelings of belonging, possession, and control. The practice of passion-related homicide stems from the fear of betrayal, abandonment, contempt, and loss.
